Replacing The Distribution Box

Why You May Need Replacing The Distribution Box In Winter Haven

Ever have one of those days when it seems like everything is going wrong? Like when a perfectly working septic system suddenly begins spewing sewage and sludge up through the drains instead of the other way around? If this ever happens to you, you may want to consult professionals about replacing distribution box in your system, or at least checking the drain field for clogging. Why is this necessary? We will explain what it is, how it should be installed, and how this kind of scenario can happen to you.

Still have questions about replacing the distribution box in Winter Haven or how to properly maintain your septic system? Our experienced professionals at Liberty Plumbing and Septic have been helping customers with their septic problems for years. Call us today to see how we can help you.

Septic Tank Construction

What is a Distribution Box?

In all honesty, next to the septic tank itself, the distribution box is probably one of the more important parts of your entire septic system. Made of the same resilient and durable material as the septic tank, the distribution box lies between the tank and the drain field, connecting the two by a series of pipes. When material is introduced into the septic system, solid matter remains in the septic tank and liquid matter flows out from the tank, and into the distribution box. From there, the water is distributed out into the drain field through multiple pipes with holes in them, so that the liquid can seep into the drain field, where it is absorbed back into the soil itself.

If, when it was installed, the distribution box is not placed upon solid ground, like clay or gravel, it will shift, over time, because of the varying weight of the water passing through it. If its elevation shifts higher or lower than the drain field pipes that are connected to it, or moves to an angle where water from the tank cannot flow freely into it, it may cause the sewage to back up and cause a back flow into your home. One sign that this may be happening is a sour smell or strong odor of sewage coming from the drains in your home, or water moving slower than normal when draining.

What to Expect During Replacement

Like with most septic system repairs or replacements, the area in which the septic system resides will have to be dug up in order to perform replacing distribution box maintenance. Once everything has been dug up, disassembled, replaced and tested by running water through the tank and into the distribution box, most maintenance teams will then observe the flow into the drain field, just to be sure that everything is going where it should, as it should. The best way to ensure that your septic system works the way it should, always, is to have regular maintenance checks done, as well as pumping septic tank on a regular basis.
