Bathroom Remodeling
While most homeowners will choose to remodel their bathrooms simply to give it a clean, fresh look; bathroom remodeling also makes good financial sense. A modern bathroom with high quality products and sleek bathroom fixtures can make you feel good about yourself at the end of the day and will undoubtedly give you a good return on investment when it is time to sell.
Bathroom remodeling projects can run the gamut from a minor surface-level bathroom repair and remodel to a major task that involves changing the layout or perhaps a complete tear-out & remodel. Whether major or minor, one of the most critical elements to take into consideration is the bathroom design, especially in a small bathroom. Every fixture, from the bathroom sink to the various bathroom vanities must be carefully chosen to make optimum use of the available space while still being of service and providing sufficient storage space.
Minor Bathroom Remodeling: Minor bathroom repair and remodeling that involves just surface alterations such as installing a new, sleeker bathroom faucet and new bathroom fixtures, all of which could be considered do it yourself. While a faucet repair may seem like a simple and straightforward do it yourself undertaking, it can sometimes be easier and cheaper just to put in a new faucet.
Major Bathroom Remodeling: Unlike remodeling of most other rooms, wherein you can just rearrange the furniture for a complete transformation, changing the layout of the bathroom is much more complicated. This is because; in addition to dealing with the visible elements you will also have to take into consideration the underlying bathroom plumbing and electrical system. Re-positioning the plumbing fixtures such as a faucet, bathtub, sinks and toilets would definitely call for a professional plumber.
The shower/tub and bathroom flooring are two of the other major factors that need to be taken into consideration when remodeling the bathroom.
Shower/Tub: Some people will tell you that they can repair and refinish your fiberglass or acrylic shower/tub. They will also try to sell you a bathtub liner, which is like an overcoat for the tub. The problem with these two methods is that the repairs don’t last long and in some cases are more costly in the end then just replacing the shower/tub. If the tub liner is not installed correctly there can be leakage into the old tub and then you have a mold problem. That is why we do not recommend or do either of the above fixes. We recommend building a tiled shower or installing a pre-fabricated shower/tub.
Bathroom Flooring: Ceramic, laminate and engineered flooring are the best choices for any bathroom as they withstand moisture quite well. Hardwood flooring is best avoided as it has a very low moisture tolerance.
